Columbia Pictures Gets Lost in 'Zombieland'

Ruben Fleischer is in negotiations to direct Columbia Pictures zombie comedy Zombieland, according to Variety. Rhett Reese-Paul Wernick screenplay centers on the most frightened guy on Earth who leads a motley crew of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. Title refers to an old funeral home that is turned into a morbid attraction called Zombieland. Gavin Polone is producing through his Pariah Films shingle. Sony is ramping up the project as a potential pre-SAG/DGA strike film and is eyeing an April start date.

After starring in Brad Anderson's TRANSSIBERIAN, Harrelson is moving deeper into genre territory as he is now set to bash some brains and battle zombies. The actor has signed on to star in the horror comedy Zombieland, which Ruben Fleischer is directing for Columbia Pictures. Written by the team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the film revolves around a mismatched pair of survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies. Harrelson plays one of the men, a zombie fighter named Albuquerque.
